Thomas Vineyard Estate - Trophy for Top Shiraz at Boutique Wine Awards 2008
Published: 15/07/2008
To achieve this they beat a strong class of 350 entries in which a number of gold medals were awarded. The Boutique Winemakers Association by definition consider a vineyard that bottles no more that 250 tonnes under their own label each year. For the record, Thomas Vineyard bottle 10 tonnes.
The awards and reviews for the Reserve Shiraz 2005 so far include:
Awards
- Silver Medal. 2007 Visy Great Australian Shiraz Challenge
Reviews
- Five stars: Impenetrable purple, verging on black, hyper concentrated regional style swollen with bitter chocolate, blackberry and plum, a heroic Henry VIII style! Rated 94/100 2008 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion
- 94 points, Five Stars: This new maker has two ripping Shirazes. The Reserve is concentrated, rich and ripe, but not over the top or alchol-hot; rather it’s chock-full of bold plum and chocolate flavours with a lick of licorice. Fruit-sweet, big and chunky, Huon Hooke, Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine 2007
- Top Aussie Red: Huon Hooke, Good Living Magazine, Sydney Morning Herald, October 2006
The owners of Thomas Vineyard Estate, Dawne and Merv Thomas, are very proud of their award. “We are very proud of the consistency we have been able to achieve with each vintage. The viticultural practices and winemaking teams have proved an award winning formula.”
