New Product - Wine Preserva

Published: 13/08/2008

I was recently introduced to Barry Rees, who is a decent chap with a keen interest in wine and food. What I really like about him is that whenever we catch up we have a glass of wine, a good old chat, and then remember we were meeting to discuss business. This always comes last! It is an easy relationship that is evolving.

I also like him because he has invented a top product, the Wine Preserva. This in an innovative device which prolongs the life of an open bottle of wine, up to 5 days after opening the wine remains fresh on the nose and palate.

How does it work? It is a simple inert plastic floating disk that comes with a tong to push the disk into the top of the bottle. At first glance the Wine Preserva looks like a tea bag, but once over the initial impression the Wine Preserva works a treat. The inert plastic disk floats on top of the wine and moves down as each glass is poured.

It is essentially a blanket that prevents oxygen coming into contact with the wine to prevent oxidation. The aim is to preserve wine in an open bottle at restaurant quality over 5 days. The benefits are numerous especially for ‘wine by the glass’ and store tastings when bottles can be open for several days.

Barry appeared on the ABC New Inventors program on Wednesday 23rd July, or go onto their site post production to visit the link to see Barry in action with his product. See http://www.abc.net.au/tv/newinventors/txt/s2306913.htm

I am now using the product in my sample bottles and love it. I have agreed to include the product in my portfolio to offer retailers and restaurants a way of increasing their margin, reducing wastage and adding value to their business.
