Nicholas Clark from Amietta Vineyard (situated in Moorabool Valley, near Geelong) joined forces with Daniel Murdoch (owner of Flor Wine Bar) and Chris Stewart (chef) to create a gastronomic delight.

If you have not been to the setting before, it is a cosy set-up with a very relaxed atmosphere. The wine bar is the perfect setting for a wine dinner; filled with guests not on a time constraint, and keen to be taken on a food and wine journey. And journey it was. The menu ran something like this:

Confit chicken and pistachio terrine on Melba toast
with
Amietta Sauvignon Blanc 2006

Spiced barramundi on sautéed okra with a lime leaf infused coconut bisque
with
Amietta Riesling 2005

Tallegio brulee with marinated mushroom salad and olive paste
with
Amietta Angels’ Share Cabernet Shiraz 2005
Amietta Shiraz Lagrein 2005

French onion soup with braised oxtail ravioli and Milawa king river gold croutons
with
Amietta Shiraz 2005
Amietta Shiraz 2004

Miniature dark chocolate and cherry pithiviers shiraz chocolate sauce & liquorice ice cream
with
Amietta Carmènere 2008 daiquiri

I believe the general consensus was that the food offered everyone an experience they would not have at home, or at another restaurant. It was really interesting to try the Carmènere that had just been pressed that afternoon. You can’t get much fresher than that!

As a final note we would like to congratulate Daniel and his team at Flor Wine Bar as they have recently been awarded 3 stars in The Age Cheap Eats Guide 2008 (the rating means best in class)!
