Frog Belly - Cabernet Sauvignon - 2009

2009

Winemaker: Bruce Dukes
Viticulturalist: Richard Wilson
Vineyard: Margaret River, Warner Glen Estate
(Old Block Cabernet)

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
Alcohol: 13.9 %
Cellaring: Drink now to 2015
Oak: French

Colour: Deep red with purple hue.

Bouquet: Brooding ripe red and black berries combine with cherry and cassis perfumes, supported by a delicate cradle of oak.

Palate: Rich melting tannins provide a great platform for the fruit flavours, which are kept lingering and pure by succulent acidity. Ideal accompaniment to grilled meats, rich pasta dishes and strongly flavoured cheeses.

Winemaking: This wine is a blend of five different harvests, starting on the 8th of April and finishing on the 21st April. Each block was picked at its ideal maturity, and then following winemaking utilising French Oak, the final wine was blended down stream as we learned more about the personality of each wine.

Vintage: The end to the 2009 season was a “weather gift” to growers, winemakers and wine lovers. We were blessed with an Indian Summer, which rolled in after almost all whites in the area were in the winery. These warm and relatively rain free conditions allowed for plenty of hang time to ensure that each block of fruit could be picked at leisure and with full physiological ripeness.

Awards: Rated 86 - James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2012
