The Y Knot is a fortified Shiraz from the 2008 vintage. An exceptional heatwave just on ripening elevated sugar ripeness way beyond anything I had experienced in 32 years of winemaking. The option was to make a vintage port style wine and Y Knot?

Old vine Shiraz fruit ensures the ingredients are excellent. Incredible concentration and sugar ripeness with just the right amount of wine making has produced what I hope is a one off.

TASTING NOTES

Appearance: The colour is a very dark mahogany bulls blood. Deep and opaque purple blackberry right to the rim. The grapes were drying on the vine and a high skin to juice ratio extracted every bit of red/black from the grapes.

Bouquet: A classic nose of red and black fruits, tea leaf, mint chocolate, smoke and roasted meats. The spirit used to fortify the wine is a subtle background peppery note.

Palate: Warm and rich in the mouth - blackberry and licorice flavours smooth mid palate and a long complete finish, great balance of fruit and brandy spirit.
