SOUMAH goes from strength to strength

Published: 06/12/2011

Surprisingly it is not that often that a winery gets the whole package right, and by that I mean vineyard location, choice of varieties, viticulture, vinification and marketing but SOUMAH has. Despite only being on the market for the past 16 months, this winery has had people talking about their wines since day one.

Selador Wines launched their Soumah's Savarro 2010 (100% Savagnin) during the cool month of August last year, and a wet October made for few wine sales. However the lack of sales was short lived as the weather improved and the wine started to shine in the bottle. This little alternate variety went on to be our number one selling white from our portfolio over a 12 month period and was awarded not only Best Victorian Aromatic unwooded white at the Fed Square Wine Awards, but also the People’s Choice for Best White at the same awards…..not bad at all!

Fast forward 12 months and we have their Pinot Grigio 2011 making similar waves. The Chardonnay 2010 has recently been released and soon to join the our portfolio will be the Shiraz 2010. I have tracked the progress of both wines in their various stages and was blown away when I sampled the finished product (the Shiraz was just this week).

Everything is in check with this label, the right rootstocks, the best clones, attention to detail in the vineyard and super winemaking by Scott McCarthy. The family behind this label (the Butcher family) have a strong background in horticulture and hospitality and are very excited about their cellar door that will open over the summer period.

I am excited by the brand and simply love showing, introducing and consuming their wines. For this reason I wanted to share the extent of the wineries success in such as short period of time. I hope you enjoy reading the reviews and are tempted to by a bottle or two for your festive celebrations!
