Places to visit…….food and wine to enjoy! (Australia Day Issue - January 2012)

Published: 25/01/2012

We are very excited to announce a few new additions to our client base that are worth knowing about!

Carolina

11 Nicholson Street, Brunswick East 3057

Café / Bistro / Wine Bar

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 7:30am until 11:00pm (kitchen closes one hour prior)

David Henderson and Melanie Hayes are behind this venture that opens tomorrow, fittingly on Australia Day. The venue is a former shoe store, however complete renovation inside and out leaves little resemblance of this (apart from some signage out front). The two biggest features of this business is the open kitchen tucked in the centre of the building, perfectly situated to service the punters inside but readily accessible to the garden out back. The second draw card is the stunning garden that has been developed from a building site in a very short period of time. It is my take on a cottage garden, but with a contemporary edge. I have no doubt it will be a big hit most of the year around.

The focus on beverages is largely local, with a big accent towards boutique and handcrafted. It would be remiss of me not to say we have had a hand in the wine list, but have worked hard to provide a small but enticing selection of wine by the glass at affordable prices.

This venue is definitely a bonus for those living in the area!

White Hart Hotel

63 - 65 Hill Street, Longwood 3665

Hotel with a beer garden

Open Monday to Wednesday 3pm - 9pm; Thursday to Saturday 12 - late and Sunday 12 - 830pm

Stuart Holmes has the White Hart Hotel in Longwood - the quintessential country pub with a European trained chef, a wine list with all the local gems (including the SOUMAH Savarro 2011 and Shiraz 2010) and those from afar. If you are not after wine, be tempted by a cold beer in the huge beer garden.

Longwood is approximately 150km north east just off the Hume Highway, beyond Seymour but before Euroa. This makes the White Hart Hotel a great venue to know about if you find yourself on the Hume Highway on a regular basis.

Open Tuesday - Saturday from 6pm for dinner and from 8am on Saturday and Sunday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Pepper Café

44 Pin Oak Crescent, Flemington 3031

Open Monday to Sunday for breakfast and lunch, Thursday and Friday nights for dinner

Situated directly across from the Newmarket Railway Station, Pepper is the perfect place to stop off for a coffee, cold drink and bite to eat. Pepper is fully licensed and open 7 days for breakfast and lunch, or come in on Thursday and Friday evenings to enjoy the great value gourmet pizzas and tapas. This venue offers both indoor and outdoor dining and is very popular with the locals.

If you want to be treated to a wine tasting post work, drop in on Friday 10th February between 5:30pm & 7pm as I will be there showcasing the wine on the menu by the glass. This gives you the option to try before you buy, and the time to peruse the menu at the same time. It will be tapas for me once I clock off so I hope to see you there!

That’s all for now so happy sipping, drinking and dining!

Cheers Sarah
