Lamont Wines wins Trophy for Best Pinot Noir at the Sydney International Wine Competition 2011
Published: 28/02/2011
Both their Pinot Noir 2007 and Pinot Gris 2009 were awarded Blue Gold and listed in the Top 100 wines of the show, so bets were on as to which wine was in the running for Trophy. The good news is that we have just moved on to the 2007 vintage of Pinot Noir so loyal customers will be able to reap the rewards!
Lamont Wines is a family owned, boutique Central Otago winery specialising in Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling, producing their first vintage in 2003. The vineyard is situated on 30 acres in the sub‐region of Bendigo, on the site of a historic gold mining town. The vineyards consist of two blocks, less than 1 mile apart. Situated on the 45th parallel South, less than 400,000 people live in this strip around the globe. This reflects an absence of pollution and disease pressure, allowing the grapes to flourish.
Lamont's commitment to quality has been totally focused, from the outset, on the vineyard. For this reason, knowledge and expertise in the vineyard has been a priority. Lamont owners, Lindsay McLachlan and Jude Coleman along with their winemaker Manfred Ing have taken every possible step to create the finest wines from the region.
