What a venue to behold! Over the past 12 months I have seen a transformation of Woodlands Golf Club from a venue in need of attention to what it is today - an opulent club house with first class facilities. When the opportunity arose to put together hosting a wine dinner at the venue I jumped at the chance.
Fast forward to today and I am reflecting on a very successful night. So successful in fact that when I left around 11:30pm several large tables were still in full swing! Credit must be given where credit is due, and that includes Richard Tullberg, assistant manager of the venue. The setting, staff and seamless way the night unfolded ensured all involved had a great time.
Credit must also be given to Head Chef Paul Golding. The food and wine pairings were simply delightful. The timing of courses was precise; the temperature of food served appropriate and plate presentation classy with an artistic flair. Given the number in attendance, all of the above can be difficult to achieve with a table of five let alone 100 guests!
It is only fair to share the menu with you including the wines paired from Patrick of Coonawarra:
Upon Arrival
Patrick Sparkling Shiraz 2004, Coonawarra
Canapés
Appetiser
Patrick Riesling 2008, Wrattonbully
Crustacean bisque with crab cigar
Entrée
Patrick Sauvignon Blanc 2008, Wrattonbully
Roasted Scallops on duck confit with cherry puree
Main Course
Patrick Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Coonawarra
Western District veal loin on sage gnocchi galette with brussel sprouts and veal reduction

Patrick Cabernet Rose 2008, Coonawarra
Jindi triple brie with honey poached pears

Patrick Botrytis Semillon 2006, Coonawarra
Rosewater panna cotta with pistachio crumbs, coconut ice-cream and chocolate tuille
Word is getting around about Woodlands Golf Club with functions becoming a big part of the business. There is no wonder that corporate business, private parties and weddings are selecting such a superb venue for their special event and no surprise that Richard is taking bookings well into next year. My only dilemma is working out what function I can organize to get myself back there. I may even have to drag myself off to the driving range and finally work on my golfing technique to become a member! I would like to pass on a big thank you to Richard and the team for a night to remember.
