Technically this is not a dining review but it does involve food and wine so I thought I would push the boundaries of our dining review section.

Seddon Wine Store was set up by Jeremy Honisett two years ago, and in this short period of time has developed a loyal customer base by offering great customer service and wide selection of products with a focus on all things boutique (wine, beer and cider).

Open Sunday to Wednesday 11am to 8pm and Thursday to Saturday 11am to 10pm the store offers more than just retail, evident by the high tables and stools located at the front of the building. A great selection of wine is available by the glass covering key regions in Australia but also on offer are wines from Italy, Austria and France. In addition there is the option to select anything from the store to drink on-premise for a small corkage fee of $10.00.

I have been to the store on many occasions but last Saturday met up with friends who live locally for the opportunity to catch up over a glass of wine. We managed to secure the last table in the premises and saw several groups come and go in the time we were there. Luke Berry was working solo and he did not stop serving wine, food and take-away purchases!

I was impressed by the food menu which goes beyond a cheese board or antipasta plate. The selection covered things such as tuna belly, cured meats, terrine, pate, baby sardines and a feature cheese (which was Pont l’Eveque, washed rind cow’s milk). Ranging in price between $4.50 for nuts to $18.00 for the tuna belly, there are many reasons to drop in for a glass and bite to eat.

Periodic tastings are promoted in the store so I would advise you to join the mailing list. Depending on the time of day you may turn up to find all stools occupied, but that is a good thing as it means the venue is popular and gives Jeremy and his team more reasons to keep things interesting and rotate the products in the store and wine by the glass on a regular basis.

If you visit in the next few weeks, try a glass of Soumah Savarro 2010 from the Yarra Valley or Warner Glen Estate Chardonnay 2008 from Margaret River. I admit they are two wines from my portfolio but they are great examples of their variety and region and selling really well!

Cheers Sarah
