I am getting to know this venue very well, and have worked my way through the breakfast, lunch and light evening menu on more than one occasion. The most recent occasion was a Thursday evening, after the wine appreciation course I host at the venue concluded.
It was around 9pm that nine of us were ready to eat, and by that stage I was over selecting something from the menu. Owner Aleks kindly suggested putting something together for our group, and without further ado the food started flowing. The banquet consisted of the following:
Marinated olives
Spanakopita with mint yoghurt
Fresh Italian buffalo mozzarella with truss tomato & basil
Crispy potatoes with rosemary & aioli
Calamari with rocket and lemon
Char grilled marinated lamb cutlets
Plate of sliced cured meats & cheese
In the words of the owner, the food was very well received, and judging by the number of lamb cutlets that were devoured between nine people in a short space of time I would have to agree.
To sum up Milé Café Bar I would say this: a venue that is a must on your city short list, regardless of whether it is for breakfast, lunch or a light bite to eat at the end of the week. Once the warmer weather arrives, expect to see CBD workers mingling in the laneway outside for after work drinks. Do not make an assumption that you will get a table though as Milé seems to be busy from 730am until late.
